With more than 800,000 menu items and grocery products available to an average person in the U.S.* to choose from on DoorDash, now it’s easier than ever to zero in on exactly what you want and where to find it, so you can get more done with less work.

Finding Exactly What You Want on DoorDash Is Now As Simple As Sending A Text

Sometimes you don’t want to tap through menus or browse to build a cart. You’re mid-meeting, walking the dog, or juggling errands, and you just need food to show up.

In just three months since launch, DoorDash users have already discovered more than 40,000 new restaurants** using Ask DoorDash with nearly half** of Ask DoorDash restaurant orders going to local spots the consumer has never tried before — finally an easy way to answer one of life’s hardest questions: what’s for dinner?

Now you can just text DoorDash. Here’s how it works:

  • Text what you’re craving: Ask for a specific dish, request a local recommendation based on your mood, or simply reorder your go-to Friday night meal for the family.

  • Skip the search: DoorDash searches local spots, scans menus, and suggests a cart based on what you’re in the mood for. It even texts you photos of the food it recommends right from the restaurant’s store page on the DoorDash app.

  • Truly personalized ordering: Text “order my usual” and it knows you mean your Friday night order — no need to spell out the dish, the modifiers, or the restaurant. It already knows whether you skip cilantro, always add extra sauce, or never miss dessert. The more you order, the more it learns, and if you want, it can message you proactively to ask if you want your usual coffee order based on your daily habits.

  • Manage group preferences with ease: Ordering for large groups is never easy, especially when everyone wants something different. It can handle mixed dietary preferences and different quantities in one order, so you’re not the one juggling everyone’s requests.

  • Checkout without ever opening the app: Confirm your order right inside the text thread and it manages checkout.

It’s less like traditional online ordering and more like texting a friend while they’re standing in line at your local coffee shop: they already know your milk preference and can order your usual, or send you the menu so you can tell them what you want. Then they place the order and bring it to you.

When you build your grocery cart from your preferred grocer by asking DoorDash, it scans that store’s shelves in real time to find cheaper price swaps for the same or equivalent products. It totals up your potential savings right before checkout so you can accept or decline the swaps, turning every time you shop into an opportunity to save.
